| Bellamy |
Previously on The 100. |
| Russell |
No more fighting, Clarke. Be at peace. A better place, just like you said you wanted. |
| Josie |
Now this I can work with. |
| Bellamy |
Who are you? |
| Josie |
Josephine Lightbourne. Nice to meet you. |
| Murphy |
You're not Clarke. |
| Abby |
That woman is a monster. |
| Josie |
What's the matter, LeeLee? You not recognize your best friend? |
| Kaylee |
Josephine? |
| Josie |
Surprise. |
| Josie |
Yours was the last face I saw before I fell. Now we're even. |
| Echo |
Bellamy. What's going on? |
| Bellamy |
Clarke's dead. |
|
[Clarke wakes up with a gasp.] |
|
Cut to black. |
| Scene 1 - Clarke's Mindspace - The Skybox |
|
[Clarke is in her cell in the Skybox, her appearance matching that of the very beginning of the Pilot. The walls are covered in drawings of her friends and family, like drawings of her own.] [The voices of people Clarke has known can be heard, overlapping; Bellamy, Jasper, Madi, Abby, Niylah, Wells.] [When she touches the drawings, she sees flashes of a memory containing the person in the drawing; Lexa, Madi, herself.] |
| Scene 2 - Clarke's Mindspace - Shallow Valley Gas Station |
|
[Clarke leaves her cell through a door, stepping into the gas station that was in Shallow Valley. She sees her late father. Her appearance is now that of Season Five] |
| Clarke |
Dad? |
| Jake |
Hello, sweetheart. |
|
[Clarke falls into his arms, the two share a hug.] |
| Clarke |
How is this possible? How are we here? |
| Jake |
What's the last thing you remember? |
| Clarke |
I died. |
| Jake |
Come here a second. Come on. |
|
[Jake guides Clarke to sit down on a stool.] |
| Jake |
Now you rest. |
| Clarke |
It's over. I've been fighting for so long. |
| Jake |
I know you have. |
| Clarke |
I never thought I'd see you again. |
|
[The two both smile before Clarke seems to realize something.] |
| Clarke |
I didn't get to say goodbye. To Madi. To Mom. |
|
[Lightning strikes. Clarke looks around, gets up from the stool, looking for the source. She approaches a window.] |
| Clarke |
What the hell? |
|
[Rain pours down on the window.] |
| Clarke |
It started when I got upset. |
| Jake |
Clarke, listen. What do you hear? |
| Clarke |
Rain? |
| Jake |
Heh. I'm serious, focus. Between the rain drops. What else do you hear? |
|
[Clarke closes her eyes, listening intently, blocking out the sound of the rain.] [She makes out the steady thump of a heartbeat.] |
| Clarke |
A heartbeat. |
|
[Jake smiles.] [Clarke turns back to him, surprise on her face.] |
| Clarke |
I'm still alive. No... No, I saw it. He killed me. |
| Jake |
He didn't. |
| Clarke |
You're just in my head. I loved being here with Madi and I love you, so here you are. |
| Jake |
Oh, sweetheart. |
|
[Jake pulls Clarke into another hug.] |
| Clarke |
I don't understand. Am I dreaming? |
| Jake |
This place is reacting to you. We're just in your subconscious, somehow. But beyond that, there are no answers for you here, Clarke. So, go on. Go figure this out. I'll be here if you need me. |
|
[Jake kisses Clarke on the forehead.] |
| Clarke |
I love you, dad. |
| Jake |
Forever. Go on. |
|
[Clarke exits through another door, being enveloped in white.] |
|
Cut to opening credits. |
| Scene 3 - Clarke's Mindspace - Eligius IV |
|
[Clarke exits the doorway, entering a hallway of Eligius IV.] [There is a mysterious, red door at the end of the hallway, a Christmas wreath hanging from it. Inside of that room, gun shots and screaming can be heard.] |
| Clarke |
What the hell is going on? |
|
[Another door at the opposite end of the hallway opens. Clarke turns towards it.] |
| Clarke |
It is reacting to me. |
| Scene 4 - Clarke's Mindspace - The Skybox |
|
[Clarke steps inside of the room, once again in her cell.] [This time, she is donning her Season 3 appearance.] [A.L.I.E. is in the room with her.] |
| A.L.I.E. |
Hello, Clarke. |
| Clarke |
No. I pulled the kill switch. I destroyed you. |
| A.L.I.E. |
And I saved you. Why do you think you're still here? I may be gone, but this precious repository of your memories is here because of me. You're welcome. |
| Clarke |
The neural mesh is still in my head. It must have interfered with the drug they used to wipe my mind. |
| A.L.I.E. |
Correct. And so you see, you exist because of me. But you won't if they figure out how you freed Raven. |
| Clarke |
We EMP'd the chip. But only in Raven and Mom, not me. |
|
[A.L.I.E. removes a memory from the wall of drawings-- the memory of them EMPing the chip in Raven-- placing it inside a chip.] |
| A.L.I.E. |
If I were you, and in a way I am, I'd keep this memory safe. |
|
[Clarke takes the chip containing the memory from A.L.I.E.] |
| Clarke |
Thank you. But for the record, you tried to steal all those memories you're now saving. |
| A.L.I.E. |
I tried to spare you the pain and horror of your existence. |
| Clarke |
There is no joy without pain. |
| A.L.I.E. |
I never did understand humans. Those painful memories aren't even here. They're cast away, deep in your mind, where you don't have to face them. And yet, you can't let them go. |
| Clarke |
Wait, you said this is a repository of my memories. |
| A.L.I.E. |
Yes. |
| Clarke |
But there's something here I've never seen. |
| Scene 5 - Clarke's Mindspace - Eligius IV |
|
[Clarke is back in the hallway.] [More, aggressive banging and screaming on the mysterious red door.] [Alarms start flashing.] |
| Voice on PA |
Proximity alert. |
|
[Gun shots can be heard behind the door.] [Clarke reaches for the doorknob, opening it.] |
| Scene 6 - Sanctum - Josephine's bedroom |
|
[In sleep, Josie's eyes dart behind her eyelids.] |
| Scene 7 - Clarke's Mindspace - Eligius IV |
|
[Josephine enters from the door.] |
| Josephine |
Clarke Griffin. It's nice to meet you, I've heard so many things. Most of them murder-y but, you know, no judgement. |
| Clarke |
Josephine? |
| Josephine |
In the flesh. But you shouldn't have opened that door. This body's not big enough for both of us. |
| Clarke |
Russell really did it. He stole my body. |
| Josephine |
And clearly made a mess of it. It's been hundreds of years since a mind wipe failed. But I gotta say, this isn't bad. Not as organized as my mindspace, of course, but mildly impressive. |
| Clarke |
Mindspace? |
| Josephine |
The brain creates these constructs when two minds share a body. Like lucid dreaming, only not as fun. It's a self preservation thing. Try to keep the minds separate so the body doesn't die. You kinda messed that up when you opened the door, so-- you know, thanks for the accelerated brain deterioration. |
| Clarke |
Wait, you-you've been through this before? |
| Josephine |
Never anything as advanced as this, but yeah. Back in the day before Gabriel perfected the mind wipe, there were a few mishaps. Got jacked into a few people's minds while the lights were still on-- they were so average. |
| Clarke |
What happened? |
| Josephine |
The first was a six month old, her mind was unformed, full of chaos, shapes and sounds. Then there was Savannah. I swear, I was not that obnoxious at fifteen. |
| Clarke |
Then they died. |
| Josephine |
Brain hemorrhaging leads to stroke and we all fall down. It's messy and hurts like a mother. Would not recommend. Two minds, one brain, never ends well. So this, it's a problem. How did you even survive? |
| Clarke |
You just want to know so you can figure out how to get rid of me. |
| Josephine |
Okay, weren't you listening? If we don't do something, this body dies, that what you want? |
| Clarke |
Of course not. Why can't you just find a new body and give mine back? |
| Josephine |
I could, I suppose. But, it's risky. The last Primes who went on ice died forever. I'm not really into that. Besides, possession is nine tenths of the law and, just between us girls, I kinda like your body. |
| Clarke |
You're a sociopath. |
| Josephine |
Judgy. Besides, like you're one to talk, Wanheda. |
|
[Clarke scoffs and rolls her eyes.] |
| Josephine |
The way I see it, you have two options. Tell me how you survived so I can fix it and I'll make sure your people live happily ever after. Or don't and eventually and we'll both die anyway. The difference is I'll be reborn in someone else, tell my father what happened, and he'll kick your people out to die in the woods. |
| Clarke |
Go float yourself. |
| Josephine |
I have no idea what that means. |
| Clarke |
It means that I'm not telling you anything and I don't go down easy. |
| Josephine |
Wow. You're selfish. Not to mention dumb. Your mindspace contains all your memories so try not to think of where you keep them. |
|
[Behind them, the door to Clarke's cell opens once more.] [Clarke sighs.] [Josephine grins.] |
| Josephine |
Hello. |
|
[Josephine begins walking towards the room] |
| Josephine |
You control your mindspace, Clarke. Too bad you can't control your thoughts. |
|
[Clarke follows after Josephine.] |
| Scene 8 - Clarke's Mindspace - The Skybox |
|
[Josephine steps into Clarke's cell. Clarke follows behind her.] |
| Josephine |
I rescind my compliments. This is a disaster. Didn't anyone ever teach you about organizational structure? |
| Clarke |
Get out of my head. |
| Josephine |
Hah. Now, now, Clarke. Sharing is caring. |
|
[Josephine begins wandering around the room, touching the various memory drawings. She witnesses Octavia's first steps on Earth. She witnesses Clarke using the shock collar on Madi.] |
| Josephine |
Child abuse dressed up as protection. Cool. |
|
[Josephine continues wandering. She finds the empty space on the wall where the memory of the chip in Raven being EMP'd used to be.] |
| Josephine |
Are you hiding a memory from me, Clarke? Rude. |
| Clarke |
You'll never find it. |
| Josephine |
You know, I study all life, but insects always fascinated me the most. They're merciless, ruthless. I respect that. People are so messy. So emotional. Because of that, they give themselves away. I can always figure people out. Even as a kid, I could tell when they were nervous. Their pulses would beat faster, eyes would dart, breath would quicken. It's physiological. You know what my spidey senses are telling me about you right now? |
| Clarke |
That I'll never help you wipe my mind. |
| Josephine |
You think you're a badass, but your bravado covers self doubt. You'd physicalize your secret so you could keep it close, where you have control. I bet you have it on you right now. Now let me have it! |
| Scene 9 - Clarke's Mindspace - Eligius IV |
|
[Josephine charges at Clarke in an attack.] [The two fall through the wall in their scuffle, ending back up in the Eligius IV hallway amidst their fighting.] [Clarke gets Josephine onto the floor, slamming the door into her head repeatedly.] [Clarke sinks down to the floor.] [Alarms start going off again.] [Clarke realizes Josephine's body is gone.] |
| Voice on PA |
Warning. Collision alert. |
|
[Josephine steps out of the red door once more.] |
| Josephine |
We're back, bitches. |
| Clarke |
How? |
| Josephine |
Come on, you're smarter than that. How do you think we're resurrected? My mind drive backs up my consciousness. I can't die in the mindspace. But you can. Unless whatever fluke kept you here can bring you back, you, my friend, are playing for keeps. I took a sedative about an hour ago, so that gives me all night to kill you in here or find the memory of how I can kill you out there. Got a prefrence? |
|
[Clarke takes off in a run.] |
| Josephine |
Easy or hard way, Clarke. Either way, you die. |
|
[Clarke continues running, Josephine walking after her, until she ends up in the fighting pits of the Second Dawn Bunker.] |
| Scene 10 - Clarke's Mindspace - Second Dawn Bunker |
|
[Octavia-- Blodreina-- enters.] |
| Octavia |
What are you doing here? |
| Clarke |
I just have to stay ahead of her. If I can hide- |
| Octavia |
You're good at that, aren't you? Hiding, while other people fight. |
| Clarke |
What? |
| Octavia |
You did that during the Conclave. While I was up there, fighting for everyone's lives, you were down here, stealing what I bled for. Whatever. Fine. You wrote me off, the Conclave at Tondc-- I get it. But the thing is, I really thought you cared about Bellamy. |
| Clarke |
I care about both of you. |
| Octavia |
But you left him in the pits to die anyway. |
| Clarke |
I had to. And he understands, he-- he forgave me. |
| Octavia |
Did he? Then, why isn't he here in this memory? I'll tell you why-- because you're too afraid to face him. Because you know he thinks you're a monster who will abandon anyone. |
| Clarke |
That is not who I am. |
| Octavia |
I don't know why you're arguing with me, Clarke. After all, I'm just a self conscious projection of you. |
|
[Alarms go off once more.] |
| Voice on PA |
Warning. Collision alert. |
|
[The doors to the fighting pits open and Josephine emerges.] |
| Clarke |
Help me. |
| Octavia |
That'll happen. |
|
[Josephine enters the room, circling around Octavia] [Clarke takes off.] |
| Josephine |
You look fun. |
| Octavia |
Have at her. |
| Josephine |
Even your projections hate you, Clarke! |
| Scene 11 - Clarke's Mindspace - Mount Weather |
|
[Clarke goes through a door, ending up in the medical ward of Mount Weather] [On the hospital bed lies a body covered in contaminated plastic wrap.] [Clarke pulls back the wrap to reveal Maya, covered in radiation burns.] |
| Clarke |
Maya? |
|
[Maya opens her eyes, startling Clarke.] |
| Maya |
Hi, Clarke. |
| Clarke |
No. I don't want this. I don't want any of this. |
|
[Maya is suddenly standing.] |
| Maya |
That's the thing, Clarke. Some part of you does want this, or I wouldn't be here. I have a question for you. Why are you fighting so hard to stay alive? |
| Clarke |
I have to- |
| Maya |
Save your people, yes, I know. Too bad I wasn't in that group, huh? |
| Clarke |
I never meant to hurt you, Maya. I'm sorry. |
| Maya |
You keep saying that. Tell me, are you sorry about Jasper too? After all, killing me is what sent him off the deep end. |
| Clarke |
Jasper made his choice. |
| Maya |
Wrong. His death is on you too. You do things, but other people pay the price. |
| Clarke |
Okay, that's enough. |
| Maya |
You've killed more people than you've saved, do you realize that? If you actually cared about saving people's lives, you'd walk away. You know what I think? You like being the savior. You like playing god. You're not so different from the Primes, you know. |
|
[The same alarm begins beeping.] |
| Voice on PA |
Radiation alert. |
| Maya |
She's coming. Why don't you just give in to her? Just give up control for once. |
| Clarke |
Control. I'm in control. |
|
[Clarke takes the chip containing the memory out of her pocket.] |
| Clarke |
I have an idea. |
|
[Clarke closes her hand around the chip and it vanishes.] [Josephine enters.] |
| Josephine |
Woah. You, uh-- you have a little something. |
|
[Maya touches her cheek, feeling the burnt skin there.] |
| Maya |
Mm. |
|
[Josephine looks at Clarke expectantly.] |
| Maya |
She hid it in the cave. |
| Clarke |
Are you kidding me? |
| Josephine |
Heh. I mean-- your projections are the best. Care to take us? |
| Maya |
Mhmm. |
| Scene 12 - Clarke's Mindspace - Cave |
|
[Clarke and Josephine are now in the cave where Clarke sent the memory chip.] [The rover is in there with them.] |
| Josephine |
Thank you, Melty Girl. Nice parking spot. |
|
[Josephine opens the rover doors, to find Maya already inside] [Maya puts a shock collar on Josephine.] [Josephine convulses, falling to the ground in pain.] |
| Maya |
Gotcha. |
| Clarke |
You have no control here. This is my mindspace. Turns out, I can create whatever I want, including her. |
|
[Josephine stands, turns to face the rover, noticing Maya has disappeared.] |
| Josephine |
Cute. |
|
[Josephine makes to leave the cave.] |
| Clarke |
I wouldn't bother. The collar's geotagged to the cave. |
| Josephine |
(Scoffs.) Okay, what's your plan here? Stall until I wake up? I'll just try again. Night, after night, and the more time I spend here, the faster you die. And let me tell you, that death ain't fun, or pretty. You can't win, so why bother? |
| Clarke |
To make sure you lose. Me? I'll find a way to survive. I always do. |
| Josephine |
You've got spunk, I'll give you that. If things were different, we could've been friends. But I'm bored now. |
|
[Josephine uses the shock collar to electrocute herself to death.] |
| Scene 13 - Clarke's Mindspace - Eligius IV |
|
[Josephine emerges from the red door, this time with Russell in tow.] |
| Josephine |
Hey, Clarke, I may not be able to create anything in your mindspace, but I can sure bring something in. |
|
[Clarke is running through the halls.] |
| Russell |
Let's split up and stop playing games. You're not a cat toying with a mouse. She's dangerous. Kill her. |
|
[Josephine and Russell split up, calmly walking after Clarke as she runs through the hallways.] |
| Russell |
You ever take zoology 101, Clarke-- hunting tactics of predator species? No? How about a quick lesson then. The most common-- |
| Josephine |
Hunters expend energy running down slower prey, or they pace themselves and let their prey tire out. I'm proposing a third option, just show me where you hid it, so we can both kick back and rest. All this running is plain undignified. |
|
[Clarke stops at an airlock, looking inside, where she sees a memory of her dad being floated.] [She takes off again after a moment.] [Josephine sees the hesitation and stops to look herself.] |
| Josephine |
Why did you avoid this? Heh. "Go float yourself." |
|
[The door to the airlock slides open and Josephine steps inside.] |
| Josephine |
A-plus zoology 101, Clarke. That was a very effective distraction display. |
|
[Within the airlock is another set of doors, which open, revealing a forest.] [Josephine enters.] |
| Josephine |
But I know better. |
| Scene 14 - Clarke's Mindspace - Forest |
|
[Within the forest is the Commanders' throne.] [On the throne is a locked, black box.] [Josephine approaches the box.] |
| Josephine |
Yahtzee. |
|
[Josephine touches the combination lock, seeing a memory of when Clarke found Jasper's goggles.] |
| Josephine |
Let me guess. |
|
[Josephine attempts to put the combination 0100 into the lock.] [Clarke arrives before she can.] |
| Clarke |
Get away from that. |
|
[Josephine pulls a knife from a nearby tree, seeing the memory of Clarke stabbing Finn.] |
| Josephine |
Oh, hey, Clarke. This is the place you're avoiding? It's not even that scary. Alright, it's a little ominous. |
| Clarke |
You shouldn't be here. |
| Josephine |
It was clever hiding it here. A place you wouldn't go, so a place I wouldn't look. Memory is funny, you know. The formative stuff, the traumas, the things we can't move past. They live deep in the brain stem. These are the wounds we pay shrinks not to fix. These places control us, make us who we are. It's actually connected to the lower brain function; breathing, reflexes. It's why you cry when you think of Lexa. |
| Clarke |
Shut up. |
| Josephine |
All of this is guilt for the deaths you've caused, but I don't get it. Why are you so torn up? Everything you did was to save your people. I'd do the same thing. |
| Clarke |
A ringing endorsement. |
| Josephine |
The thing I don't get is why you don't care about saving your people now. |
| Clarke |
(Scoffs.) What? |
| Josephine |
Let's say you could somehow fight me off, and get your body back. What would that do to your friends and family? You think my Father would just let me go? What you're doing, right now, leads to the genocide of your people. Which, I guess, is par for the course with you. |
| Clarke |
I just wanna live. |
| Josephine |
Do you, though? 'Cause your mind sure doesn't seem to. Have you ever, even once, considered that the solution is to sacrifice yourself? Your people are safe, Bellamy made sure of it. I mean, he took your death hard, sure, but he knew the only thing a leader could do was to strike a deal for peace. Now it's time for you to step up. Bow out gracefully and your people get to live happily ever after. |
| Clarke |
You're lying. Bellamy would never make a deal like that. |
| Josephine |
The lack of trust hurts me, Clarke. But that's why I brought this. You have drawings, I have books, don't judge. |
|
[Josephine holds out her book of memory.] |
| Josephine |
Here. Take it. It's not a trick, I don't play that way. |
|
[Clarke touches the book, a memory playing.] |
| Scene 15 - Memory - Sanctum |
| Russell |
I can guarantee safety for the rest of your people. We'll share everything we've learned about surviving on this moon. |
| Bellamy |
We'll take your deal. Because it's the smart play. And it's the move she would've made. |
| Scene 16 - Clarke's Mindspace - Forest |
|
[Clarke releases the book, shock and hurt on her face.] |
| Josephine |
It's time for you to sacrifice for your people, Clarke. Don't start another war they'll have to fight. |
| Clarke |
I need them to be okay. |
| Josephine |
By my word, your people will be safe. Bellamy is meeting with my Father first thing in the morning to discuss building them a compound. They'll have a new home. A new life. Madi can go to school, just like any other kid. Your friends can settle down, everyone can stop fighting, including you. |
|
[Clarke slowly nods.] |
| Clarke |
Tell Madi I love her. And tell all of them. |
|
[Clarke goes over to the black box.] [She looks at the combination lock, which reads 0100.] |
| Clarke |
You forgot Bellamy and Raven. |
|
[Josephine rolls her eyes.] [Clarke changes the combination to 0102, unlocking the box, then stands.] [Josephine approaches the black box, opening it. Within the box is the chip containing the memory of Raven being EMP'd, alongside Jasper's goggles, and the warning video Jake made.] [Josephine sees the memory when she picks up the chip.] |
| Josephine |
An EMP. Heh. Cool. It'll be over soon. I promise. |
|
[Josephine leaves.] [Clarke sinks down in the Commanders' throne, crying.] |
| Scene 17 - Sanctum - Josephine's bedroom |
|
[Another shot of Josie still asleep, this time more peacefully.] |
| Scene 18 - Clarke's Mindspace - Shallow Valley |
|
[Clarke is back in the Shallow Valley gas station.] [She is drawing in Madi's sketchbook.] [The door opens. Clarke looks up.] |
| Clarke |
Dad? |
|
[Monty steps into frame, wearing the same clothes he did in Season One.] [Clarke stands up, crossing the room to meet him. She sets the sketchbook on a nearby surface.] |
| Clarke |
Monty. |
|
[Clarke embraces Monty.] [Monty does not hug her back, hands still in his jacket pockets.] |
| Monty |
You call this doing better? |
|
[Clarke steps back from the hug.] |
| Monty |
Giving up isn't better. |
| Clarke |
That's not what I'm-- |
|
[Monty raises his chin.] |
| Clarke |
I'm doing this for the others. They'll live. |
| Monty |
It's "all for my people"? Look, I've heard that before, Clarke. It's just an excuse. |
| Clarke |
You're the one who told me I'm not god. That I don't get to decide who lives or dies. Well, you got your wish. I'm not deciding for anyone else. |
|
[Clarke sits on a stool, pausing her words.] |
| Clarke |
Just for me. |
| Monty |
Look. I get it, it's been endless. Bearing it so we don't have to, anyone would be tired. |
|
[Monty taps on Madi's sketchbook.] |
| Monty |
But are you really gonna leave her? |
|
[Monty sits on a stool next to Clarke.] [Clarke looks at the sketchbook, a drawing of Madi on display.] |
| Clarke |
She's better off without me. |
| Monty |
I don't think that's true. |
| Clarke |
My Mom will take care of her. And Bellamy already made a deal that keeps them all safe. |
| Monty |
This is about being the good guys. Yeah, that deal means our side gets to live, but at what cost? You're giving it to people who murder human beings to live forever. |
| Clarke |
That's easy to say. But in the real world, we have to do what's best for our people. |
| Monty |
Doing the wrong thing is never what's best. |
|
[Clarke sighs, resting her forehead on her hand.] |
| Monty |
The ends don't justify the means, you know that. |
| Clarke |
What do you want from me, Monty!? It's too late. Josephine already has the memory. As soon as she wakes up, she'll know how to get me out of my head. It's over. |
|
[Monty stands.] |
| Monty |
We'll see about that. |
|
[Monty holds out his hand, offering it to Clarke.] [Clarke looks up at him, then takes his hand after a moment.] |
| Scene 19 - Clarke's Mindspace - Eligius IV |
|
[Clarke and Monty walk down the hall, hand-in-hand, approaching Josephine's red door.] |
| Clarke |
This is Josephine's mindspace. She controls it. |
| Monty |
What's she gonna do? Kill you? |
|
[Clarke and Monty smile at each other. Clarke opens the door to Josephine's mindspace, the two of them stepping inside.] |
| Scene 20 - Josephine's Mindspace - Library |
|
[Clarke and Monty enter into a library.] [Voices of people Josephine has known can be heard within her mindspace.] [The two of them look down the long row of library books.] |
| Clarke |
Wow. |
| Monty |
Two-hundred thirty years of memories. |
|
[A loud boom happens over head, shaking the whole room, causing the lights to flicker. Monty and Clarke look up at the commotion.] |
| Scene 21 - Sanctum - Josephine's bedroom |
|
[Josie twitches in her sleep, her nose now bleeding. Her eyes begin moving behind her eyelids again.] |
| Scene 22 - Josephine's Mindspace - Library |
| Monty |
Good news is, we can affect her body in here. Bad news is, Josephine seems to sense it. Come on, let's find something we can use. |
|
[Clarke and Monty split up to look through Josephine's books containing her memories.] [The camera focuses on one of the books titled 'JOSEPHINE ADA LIGHTBOURNE VII', amongst other books like it.] |
| Clarke |
They're all in chronological order. |
| Monty |
I like your drawings better. |
|
[Monty finds a door, with the words 'SPECIAL COLLECTIONS' plastered on it.] |
| Monty |
Look. This must be where she keeps her primal wounds. She said they create a physical response. |
| Clarke |
[A pause] We could control my body from there. |
|
[Monty pulls a pack of tools out of his pocket.] |
| Monty |
On it. This'll take a minute. Find out who she is while I get this open. |
|
[Monty begins hot wiring the door lock to get it open.] [Clarke runs her fingers along the spines of Josephine's memory books, voices from Josephine's memories being heard. She pulls out the 'JOSEPHINE ADA LIGHTBOURNE VII' book on the very right. |
| Scene 23 - Memory - Josephine's bedroom |
|
[Josephine and Kaylee are in Josie's bedroom.] [Josephine is painting her original self, she is drinking from a glass in her hand, while Kaylee watches from a chair.] [Clarke is in the memory, watching the scene unfold.] |
| Kaylee |
You can admit it, Josephine. You have a fixation. |
| Josephine VII |
It's called appreciation. Don't you miss your first body? |
| Kaylee |
I'm all about living in the now. Focusing on the people that are here and not those faded into dust. |
| Josephine VII |
Maybe it's time for you to refocus... on your own kind. Some of these people aren't worth your attention, LeeLee. |
| Kaylee |
Well, what can I say. |
|
[Kaylee stands up, beginning to pace around the room.] |
| Kaylee |
I am open-minded. |
| Josephine VII |
[Pained] Oh. |
|
[Josephine puts a hand to her forehead.] |
| Josephine VII |
This Jo Juice is really getting me tonight. |
| Kaylee |
Is it? Hm. |
|
[Josephine seems to have a realization. She sits her glass down on a nearby table.] |
| Josephine VII |
This isn't just J-Juice. Shuimian Jiangguo? |
| Kaylee |
I thought it was fitting, given you cataloged them. Though, I still think that you could've beat "Sleeping Berries." |
| Josephine VII |
Hm. |
| Kaylee |
Tell me why. |
| Josephine VII |
You have to understand, LeeLee. Isaac was a threat. |
| Kaylee |
He'd never hurt anyone, and he was mine. What, you couldn't stand to see me happy? |
| Josephine VII |
He defied the will of the Primes. |
| Kaylee |
He defied oblation. That's not the will of the Primes. That's just you. |
| Josephine VII |
Only two hosts have been born in the past twenty years. The Nulls are muddying the bloodline, without oblation, we go extinct. Hell, you helped me spread the word, before you decided to hop in the sack with Isaac. Now you're sounding like Ryker. |
| Kaylee |
People are more than their blood. |
| Josephine VII |
I'm talking about the bigger picture here. |
| Kaylee |
Your answer is murder? Did you think I wouldn't notice? I don't know what happened to you, but this is not who you are. |
| Josephine VII |
I'm getting bored. Why the hell did you drug me? |
| Kaylee |
So they believe this was an accident! |
|
[Kaylee grabs Josephine, steering her towards the window.] |
| Josephine VII |
Let go of me! |
|
[Kaylee pushes Josephine out of the window, watching her fall to her death.] |
| Scene 24 - Josephine's Mindspace - Library |
|
[Clarke releases the book, the memory ending. She looks over at Monty, still working on unlocking the door. She touches the book that's left to the one she was previously touching.] |
| Scene 25 - Memory - Offering Grove |
|
[Clarke approaches a crying baby, whom is laying on the forest floor.] [A man appears to save the baby. But before he can pick him up, Josephine shows up.] |
| Josephine VII |
You must think very little of me, Isaac. [A pause] Did you think I wouldn't notice my offering was going missing? The forest doesn't feed that quickly. Are you giving them to Gabriel? |
| Isaac |
Josephine, I can explain. |
| Josephine VII |
Oh, I get it. You think because you're Kaylee's pet, you're more than what you are. |
| Isaac |
I am. We all are. Just because we can't bear a host doesn't mean we're worthless. |
| Josephine VII |
I agree. |
| Isaac |
Really? |
| Josephine VII |
Worthless implies a... sort of neutrality; something with no positive value. But Nulls... you are less than useless. You dilute the bloodline, you make it less likely that anyone would bear a host. I can't let that happen. I have to think of my people. |
| Isaac |
We are your people. We could be so much more, we could do so much more if only we were allowed to truly live. If you would let us be more than just your janitors or guards. |
| Josephine VII |
That arguement would carry a lot more weight if you weren't delivering soldiers to our enemies. Tell me, how is Gabriel? His latest host must be ninety-five by now. |
| Isaac |
I'm just trying to keep our people alive. Oblation is wrong. Why should this child be sacrificed? He's done nothing-- |
|
[Before Isaac can finish his sentence, Josephine slashes his throat. He falls to the ground, bleeding out.] |
| Josephine VII |
Don't worry, Isaac. Your spirit shall live eternal. |
| Scene 26 - Josephine's Mindspace - Library |
|
[Clarke releases the book, horror on her face.] |
| Clarke |
You were right. We can't let her win. |
|
[Clarke walks toward Monty, who is still working on getting the door unlocked.] |
| Monty |
Almost got it. |
|
[The lock beeps and turns green, unlocking.] |
| Monty |
[Fist pumps] Yes! |
|
[Monty opens the door, bathing the two in brightness.] [They step through the door together.] |
| Scene 27 - Memory - Diner |
|
[Clarke and Monty enter a diner from Josephine's memories, one she went to on Earth, before she left with Eligius III.] [Within the dream, it is Christmas time, festive decorations hung up around the diner.] |
| Clarke |
Earth before the bombs. |
|
[Monty notices something on the counter, walking over to it.] |
| Monty |
Hey, check it out. |
|
[Monty pulls out a newspaper, with Charmaine Diyoza's arrest as the cover story.] |
| Monty |
Nice place. |
| Clarke |
Why would she keep this memory locked away? |
| Monty |
More importantly, how do we get control from here? |
|
[Clarke looks around the diner, spotting Josephine at one of the tables.] [Josephine is working on math equations. Next to her work is a magazine, Becca Franko on the cover.] |
| Clarke |
Come on. |
|
[Clarke and Monty take a seat in an empty booth across from Josephine.] [Josie's friend sits down with her.] |
| Josephine |
Ugh, I swear I'm taking Hanlen next semester. I can't deal with Silvestri anymore. |
| Josie's friend |
Does that mean you're not going on your little, secret family project? |
| Josephine |
I told them no. |
| Josie's friend |
Well, if you're signing up for Hanlen, pull out your miniskirts. He gives a half-grade bump to girls he likes to look at. |
| Josephine |
Oh... |
|
[A man-- Josephine's stalker-- walks up to their table.] |
| Stalker |
Hey. |
|
[The two girls share an uncomfortable look.] |
| Stalker |
I was looking for you at the water rationing protest, thought you posted something about going. |
| Josephine |
Too many people, you know. |
| Josie's friend |
And it's really dusty outside. |
| Stalker |
Yeah. Sure. |
|
[The group is silent for a long moment, an eerie feeling in the air.] |
| Stalker |
Uh, I asked, and there's plenty of room at the comparitve linguistics thing if you want to go. |
| Josephine |
I don't know, I'm not really feeling that social lately. |
| Stalker |
Heh. [A pause] You still think you're too good for me, huh? |
| Josephine |
That's-- that's not what I-- |
| Stalker |
Don't lie. Just admit it. Stop toying with me and just admit what you are. |
| Josephine |
I--I don't-- |
| Stalker |
I mean, I tried. Calls, texts, you know, being thoughtful. What do I get? |
|
[The Stalker places a gun on the table. Josephine and her friend both flinch, looking around the diner.] |
| Stalker |
Nothing. |
| Josie's friend |
What are you doing? |
| Stalker |
Thinking you should shut the hell up. Message recieved, you stuck-up bitch. You don't want to see me. |
|
[The Stalker raises the gun to his temple.] |
| Stalker |
You can see this. |
|
[He pulls the trigger, ending his own life. Blood splatters on the two girls, everyone inside the diner screams. |
| Clarke |
This is the thing that she couldn't face. No wonder she changed her mind about leaving. |
| Monty |
We need to use it to control your body. |
|
[Clarke nods, then gets a look of realization on her face.] |
| Clarke |
I have an idea. |
|
[Alarms begin to go off.] |
| Voice on PA |
Alert. Incoming transport. Take cover immediately. |
|
[The memory freezes in place, Clarke and Monty the only ones still moving within it.] |
| Clarke |
Quick, hide. |
|
[Monty shoots up from the booth, running behind the counter.] [The door to the diner opens, current Josephine entering.] |
| Josephine |
You never should have come here! GET OUT! |
| Scene 28 - Clarke's Mindspace - Eligius IV |
|
[Clarke is back in the Eligius IV hallway. Josephine jumps through her mindspace door, tackling Clarke. She ends up straddling and choking her.] |
| Josephine |
AAH! I gave you the chance to go quietly! I said I'd help your people! Deals off! |
| Scene 29 - Sanctum - Josephine's bedroom |
|
[Josie wakes up with a start, her nose bleeding. She shoots up with a gasp.] |
| Scene 30 - Clarke's Mindspace - Eligius IV |
|
[Clarke sits up, gasping, clutching her throat, she coughs. She looks at Josephine's mindspace door.] |
| Clarke |
She's awake. |
| Scene 31 - Sanctum - Palace |
|
[Josie touches the blood on her nose.] |
| Josie |
Heh... I win. |
|
[Josie makes her way downstairs to speak with Rusell, Bellamy, and Miller.] [Bellamy has a pen and paper in his hands.] |
| Bellamy |
Alright. In exchange for ignoring that you murdered Clarke-- |
|
[Bellamy and Miller look up as Josie enters the room. |
| Bellamy |
You build us a compound. |
| Russell |
What about the mother and child? Will they agree? |
| Bellamy |
I'll handle our people. |
|
[Miller nods.] |
| Bellamy |
How long will it take to build? |
|
[Josie clears her throat, drawing attention to her.] |
| Russell |
Just a moment, sweetheart. |
|
[Josie begins tapping a rhythm on her arm, Bellamy's eyes drawn to the motion.] |
| Russell |
With all of our people helping you, it will go much faster. Talk to Ryker about a work schedule and you'll need a detail of about fifty of your own people. |
|
[Bellamy begins taking notes of the pattern Josie is tapping out.] |
| Russell |
You'll build a wall that-- |
| Scene 32 - Josephine's Mindspace - Diner |
|
[The Christmas lights on the diner walls are flashing on and off.] [The camera pans in to show Monty and Clarke, using the lights to spell out "A L I V E" using morse code via the Christmas lights.] |
| Scene 33 - Sanctum - Palace |
|
[Bellamy watches Josie, writing down the taps.] |
| Russell |
Bellamy. Bellamy, are we agreed? |
| Bellamy |
...Yeah. We're good. For now. |
| Russell |
I'll order construction to begin. |
|
[Bellamy jerks his head to the left at Miller, motioning him to follow.] |
| Bellamy |
Let's go. |
|
[Bellamy exits.] [Miller glares at Josie, then exits.] |
| Russell |
Josie... |
|
[Russell wipes the left over blood from Josie's nose with a cloth.] |
| Russell |
Did something go wrong with the transfer? |
| Josie |
You could say that. She's still in my head, but don't worry. I know how to kill her once and for all. |
|
[Just outside the doors of the room, Bellamy stops Miller to talk.] |
| Bellamy |
Hey. Remember when Pike taught us morse code? |
| Miller |
I slept through most of earth skills so-- |
| Bellamy |
Okay, Josephine was tapping out morse code on her arm. |
|
[Bellamy hands Miller his notebook, with the morse code "A L I V E" written down.] |
| Miller |
What does it mean? |
| Bellamy |
It means Clarke's alive. And we're gonna get her back. |
